Move a field or column

1. In the design window, make sure the PivotTable list is activated. For instructions, see Help for your design program.
2. Display the drop areas for the PivotTable list.

   How?

   When the drop areas are hidden and the PivotTable list does not have a field in the row, column, data, or filter area, you can't drag fields to these areas.

   1. In the design window, make sure the PivotTable list is activated. For instructions, see Help for your design program.
   2. On the toolbar in the PivotTable list, click Commands and Options , and then click the Behavior tab.

   3. Select or clear the Drop areas check box.

   Note   You will not see the drop areas if the PivotTable list is not bound to a data source.

3. Do one or more of the following:

   Move a field to the row or column area

   1. Point to the field label of the field you want to move until the pointer changes to .
   2. Do one of the following:

      • To make the field a row field, click and drag the field label to the row area on the left side of the PivotTable list, until the pointer changes to .

      • To make the field a column field, click and drag the field label to the column area near the top of the PivotTable list, until the pointer changes to .

   Move a field to the detail area

   You cannot move fields to the detail area if the PivotTable list is based on source data from an OLAP database.

   1. Point to the field label of the field you want to move until the pointer changes to .

   2. Click and drag the field to the detail area at the bottom right of the view, until the pointer changes to .

   Move a field to the data area

   You can move fields from the row, column, and filter areas to the data area only if the PivotTable list is based on data from a source other than an OLAP database.

   1. Point to the field label of the field you want to move until the pointer changes to .
   2. Click and drag the field to the data area at the lower-right side of the PivotTable list, until the pointer changes to .

   Note   The field you drag to the data area is summarized based on the type of data in the field. Fields that contain numeric data are summarized with the Sum summary function. Fields that contain other types of data are summarized with the Count summary function.

   Move a field to the filter area

   1. Point to the field label of the field you want to move until the pointer changes to .
   2. Click and drag the field to the filter area at the top of the PivotTable list, until the pointer changes to .

   Move a row or column field to a higher or lower level (Change the column order of fields)

   1. Point to the field label of the field you want to move to a different level until the pointer changes to .
   2. Do one of the following:

      • To move the field to a higher level, click and drag the field label to the left and drop it where you want.

      • To move the field to a lower level, click and drag the field label to the right and drop it where you want.

Note   You can prevent users from moving fields by changing the setting on the Protection tab in the Commands and Options dialog box. To display the Protection tab, click the PivotTable list title bar.
